SUMMARY

This is a rotating shift-work position with periodic overtime requirements, including weekends and holidays, working independently and with minimal supervision, safely and efficiently operate the VHP Dryer, sugar handling equipment, trucks and pay loaders in order to dry VHP sugar and stack it in the sugar warehouses, in bulk, under the direction of the Shift Manager.  



FUNCTIONS

  • Abide by all Company policies outlined in the Employee Handbook and comply with all Company, Local, State and Federal regulations relating to Health, Safety, Operations, etc.
  • Successfully participate in and complete all training sessions, safety classes, pre-shift meetings, and/or certifications related to the position.
  • Operate the VHP Dryer and associated equipment to dry raw sugar to specification.
  • Coordinate the handling of raw sugar from the Boiling House, through the VHP Dryer and into the Raw Sugar Warehouses
  • Operate the sugar scales and belt conveyor systems that measure and convey sugar in and out of the sugar sheds.
  • Conduct equipment inspections, equipment clean up, maintenance checklists and written or computerized documentation concerning equipment status ensuring proper operation, lubricate equipment when appropriate.
  • Participate in maintenance activities requiring basic mechanical abilities and physical labor.
  • Operate forklift, man-lift, skid-steer, and other heavy equipment as needed, using both feet and hands to manipulate foot and hand controls simultaneously.
  • Maintain communication at all times with the Shift Manager and plant staff.

 

Job Requirements



QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have positive results from Company-designated tests designed to measure basic skills, job skills, mechanical aptitude and/or other interests, skills and characteristics.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older and have a good work record and disciplinary history.
  • Applicant must be in good health and physically able to perform all phases of the work. They must be able to demonstrate physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job including working inside of confined spaces and working at higher elevations.
  • Must have been employed full time for a minimum of twelve months as a Payloader Loader Operator or an Articulated Truck Driver in the past seven (7) years
  • Good understanding of the operation of PLC automated processing equipment with assorted rotating elements and interlocks
  • Must be able to be FIT tested annually to wear a respirator. This requires the applicant to be clean shaven at the time of being FIT tested.
  • Must obtain forklift certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Must have basic mechanical skills including use of wrenches, use of rigging and lifting equipment, opening of flanges and replacing of valves
  • Applicant must be able to read, write and speak the English language in order to comprehend instructions on the job and in the classroom, to communicate via radio, and to ensure personal and co-worker safety on the job.
  • New hires must pass a drug test and other pre-employment background screening, and successfully complete any required training or orientation course.


WORKING CONDITIONS

10% of the work environment is conducted while seated in heavy equipment operating in an open outdoor environment, exposed to variable/extreme weather, reduced visibility, artificial light, blowing dust and particles, and moving machinery while wearing PPE (i.e.: hard hat, goggles, and/or ear plugs), regularly climbing stairs or ladders, kneeling, crawling, bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, and walking on soft and uneven ground containing slip and trip hazards.

90% of the work environment is conducted in a covered environment, exposed to heights and rapidly changing temperatures including extreme heat; regularly climbing stairs or ladders, kneeling, crawling, bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, walking on uneven ground, and routinely lifting, loading, pushing and/or pulling of up to 55 lbs. unassisted.  Will be fitted for a respirator.
