Job Description

The Journeyman Technician harvest mechanic will safely, accurately, and efficiently, maintain, service, and repair sugar cane harvesting and related equipment in a fast paced, team based, and constantly changing work environment.  Journeyman Technician will be responsible for changing parts and components on equipment, performing time based repairs and inspections, performing accurate diagnosis and repair of equipment breakdowns, and must be able to follow procedures and planned work schedules while responding to emergencies as directed by supervision. The scope of the job duties encompasses all facets of equipment maintenance within Harvest Operations.

Job Requirements

  • Ability and motivation to perform job functions safely, correctly, and efficiently, which include:
    • Heavy lifting, climbing, squatting, working from heights and standing for extended periods
    • Operate forklift, bucket truck, boom truck, carry deck, and other mobile equipment
    • Operate various lifting devices including proper rigging procedures
    • Read and understand (paper, electronic, etc) shop manuals, wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, flow charts, parts books, etc
    • Operate scanners, multi-meters, flow meters, torque measuring devises, etc.
    • Visually identify leaking/loose/worn/broken/dirty components on cane harvesting and industrial equipment including but not limited to cane elevators, cane harvesters, tractors, air compressors, and other support equipment
  • Able and motivated to listen, learn, gain experience and judgment, and follow accepted repair industry standards, in order to plan and accomplish a variety of tasks with minimal supervision
  • Must actively and effectively assist team members as required
  • Must have commitment and dedication to reducing equipment downtime and failures
  • Must have clear communication skills and a strong desire to learn
  • Must know and understand the principles and fundamentals of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, HVAC, and pneumatic theories
  • Must meet all of the Production Maintenance Specialist - Harvest Mechanic qualifications
  • Must have at least 4 years of work experience in the mobile equipment and/or vehicle maintenance field.
  • Must have the following current ASE certifications: A1-Engine Repair, A2-Automatic Transmission, A3-Manual Drive Train & Axles, A5-Brakes, A6-Electrical/Electronic Systems, A7-Heating & Air Conditioning, A9-Light Vehicle Diesel engines, OR: T1-Gasoline engines, T2-Diesel engines, T3-Drivetrain, T4-Brakes, T6-Electrical/Electronic Systems, T7-Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning. All certifications must be kept current.
  • Furnish and utilize the necessary tools and equipment in performance of the required job functions. Tools listed on the Harvest Journeyman Mechanic Minimum Tool list are required to begin job.
  • Basic working ability utilizing desktop/laptop/thin client computers in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc. and other computer programs
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities including the use of a computerized maintenance management system.
  • Order parts per work management process
  • Perform mathematical calculations pertaining to the job
  • Accurately use and read tape measures, micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, and other related measuring instruments, read and understand mobile equipment instrumentation
  • No active disciplinary action and good work history
  • Ability to work with others and or alone with minimum supervision
  • Ability to read, speak and write English
  • Ability to follow instructions and communicate information pertaining to the job
  • Ability to follow proper safety and housekeeping procedures pertaining to the area
  • Ability to work anywhere within the company and in variable/extreme weather conditions
  • Must successfully complete any required orientation, training, and continuing education courses
  • This position will be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime
  • Must have a valid Florida driver’s license Class E or above
  • Must be capable of obtaining a forklift certification within 30 days of job award
  • Capable of obtaining mobile crane certification and MAC certification
  • Must have successfully completed the TOST and/or Ramsey Test
